From its founding in 1829, Burr and Burton has been an independent academy serving as the local high school for area students while attracting students from outside the state for its rigorous educational standards and the excellence of the faculty. Situated at the foot of Mt. Equinox and overlooking picturesque Manchester Village, Burr and Burton is a school with a proud tradition of educating students of diverse backgrounds and talents in a warm and caring environment that encourages excellence and community.
Unit 1: Understanding our Place
In this first unit of study, we build the foundation for our investigation of what it means to live well in this place in a complex and changing world. Classes introduce the elements of our food system, energy system, and the ecological systems that sustain us. We look to the forest to understand complexity and change, our history here and how we have affected and been affected by this land. We look to our community for examples of how we can live a purposeful life, sustaining ourselves and our communities within the limits of natural systems.
